- Have you ever spent the whole day for data duplicating of a hard disk?
- Have you ever tried to use an HDD/SSD hard disk duplicator to back up a hard disk, but failed to duplicate for unknown reasons?
- There are so many duplicate machines of hard disk on the market. How to choose an efficient backup method is very important.
↑UReach Duplicator supports different duplication modes.
Common duplication modes are divided into "Whole HDD Clone" and "Data-Area Clone" (System and All File). Whole HDD duplication means that the area of the entire hard disk will be completely duplicated to another hard disk regardless of the data area or blank area. Data-Area Clobe only duplicates the area of the system and all files.
The biggest difference between the two modes is the amount of data duplicated and the duplicating time required.
*The following lists a few points about "Data-Area Duplication," which is a better way of duplicating data.
Clone Hard Drive with Data-Area Duplication: Choosing an Efficient Method

↑UReach Duplicator
Most of the hard drives on the market have a capacity of at least 1TB, making data duplication very time-consuming. However, the general hard drive duplicator only supports “whole HDD duplicate,” taking about 5 hours to duplicate 1TB of data of an HDD. If a larger capacity of HDD is used, it will take much more time.
Before duplicating by “whole HDD duplicate,” it is necessary to confirm first that the total capacity of the source is less than or equal to the total capacity of the target. Otherwise, the duplication will not succeed.
Because the time cost of duplicating with “whole HDD duplicate” is not efficient, UReach duplicator adopts "Data-Area Duplication (fast duplicate)" to duplicate data, increasing the efficiency of data duplication.
"Data-Area Duplication" will analyze the format of the hard disk and data distribution on the hard disk before duplicating, which will not spend time duplicating on unused blank blocks. Duplicating the system, data, and even the data in the hidden area (HPA), UReach duplicator supports the fastest duplication speed of 30GB/m (SATA Duplicator), greatly saving your precious time.
2. Reasons for Duplicator Failures
Although a hard disk duplicator can duplicate an entire hard disk, there are some unavoidable situations. When duplicating a hard drive, the capacity of the source needs to be smaller or equal to the capacity of the target, but why sometimes does the hard drive with the same specifications also fail to duplicate?
In practical applications, it often happens that two hard disks with the same specifications are used as the source and the target, but the duplication fails after more than a few hours. After checking on the computer, even though the hard disk has the same specifications, there may be a slight difference in the number of bytes of the hard disk.
This factor leads to the problem of larger capacity of source duplicated to small capacity of target. HDD duplicator is unable to recognize the difference in the capacity of the hard disk before duplicating data. The warning indicator of failure appears at the end of the duplication, which is wasted time for waiting.
In addition, when the duplication process encounters bad blocks (bad sectors), HDD duplicator cannot skip the bad sectors, and it will directly fail to duplicate data. In contrast, the UReach duplicator can set the number of bad blocks allowed and skip the bad blocks automatically.
3. Handling Larger Source Capacity than Target
UReach duplicator can analyze the data distribution before duplicating the hard disk. Even if the capacity of the source is larger than that of the target, the duplicator can give a reminder before duplicating (Target Too Small).
By analyzing data distribution first, the duplicator recognizes the location of data on the source. When the capacity of the source is larger than the target, if the location of the data is within the area smaller than the capacity of the target, the data can be duplicated directly.
However, if the analysis finds that the distribution of hard disk data exceeds the capacity of the target, the duplicator will immediately notify that the duplication cannot be made, saving unnecessary time for waiting.
